Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Statement

As a Trust we celebrate differences and support each other so that everyone can reach their full potential regardless of disability, race, sex, sexual orientation and religion or belief.  We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every pupil, staff member, and member of the wider school community is treated with dignity and respect.

In our Trust and all of our schools we are guided by five principles:

  • Principle 1: All learners are of equal value
  • Principle 2: We recognise and respect difference
  • Principle 3: We foster positive attitudes and relationships, and a shared sense of
  • Principle 4: We observe good equalities practice in staff recruitment, retention and
  • Principle 5: We aim to reduce and remove inequalities and barriers that already exist

Accessibility
We are committed to making our school accessible to all. Schools regularly review their Accessibility Plan to improve the physical environment, curriculum access, and communication with pupils, parents, and carers.

Monitoring and Accountability
We monitor the impact of our policies and practices to ensure they are effective in advancing equality. This includes reviewing attainment data, participation rates, and feedback from pupils, staff, and parents.

Our Equality Information and Objectives Policy Statement can be found below.

Equality Objectives

Our current equality objectives are:

Objective 1
To raise equality awareness with students and staff, ensuring tolerance and respect towards individuals who identify with any of the protected characteristics. All stakeholders being regularly exposed to and understanding what is meant by a protected characteristic.

Review, May 2026: All schools within the Trust have had an increased focus on sharing and developing an understanding of the Protected characteristics as a key part of the wider curriculum of the schools. This has included:

  • David Nieper Academy: Protected characteristics more explicitly woven throughout the assembly programme as well as being a taught element within the PSHE curriculum. Along with the subject lead highlighting how the Protected Characteristics can be brought into other relevant subject areas.
  • Stonebroom Primary & Nursery School:  The focus this year has been on ensuring that Protected Characteristics are shared with pupils as part of the assembly programme and wider experience of being at the school with clear links made to school values.  Staff are now developing ways to reinforce and develop understanding as part of the wider curriculum.
  • Shirland Primary School: The PSHE curriculum enables pupils to confidently discuss Protected Characteristics as part of the oracy project. Along with a clear focus on Protected Characteristics as part of the assembly programme.
  • Mickley Village Primary and Nursery School: As part of the PSHE curriculum review an enhanced focus will be given to sharing and developing an understanding of the Protected Characteristics.

Objective 2
To work to actively close gaps in attainment and achievement between students and all groups of students; especially students eligible for free-school meals, students with special educational needs and disabilities and looked after children.

Review, May 2026: All schools within the Trust are focused on increasing attainment and achievement for all, with a particular focus on students eligible for free-school meals, students with special educational needs and disabilities and looked after children. Full analysis of the IDSR for each school has been undertaken at school/ academy and Trust level, with the outcomes being used as part of ongoing school/ academy improvement work. The IDSRs highlight that good progress is being made around the progress of disadvantaged children with additional work required to ensure that any gaps are closing over time.

These objectives are reviewed regularly and updated at least every four years.
