Headteacher Sara George explains why Stonebroom joined the Christopher Nieper Education Trust.

Before deciding which Trust to join the governing body looked at over 15 trusts. We found many too corporate, too financially driven or too constraining. The governors liked the fact that the Christopher Nieper Education Trust shares the same values as us, is local and familiar and means we keep our own identity, such as our uniform and logo.

To find out what it would be like to work with the Christopher Nieper Education Trust, Stonebroom formed a Local/Trust Partnership with the Trust, through which we employed a Family Support Worker trained by the Trust. Our curriculum leaders then started to work together with the Trust to look at developing our curriculum to make it more progressive, and the Trust’s IT technicians started to work with our school to improve our IT provision.

As a member of the Trust we have access to Trust-wide services such as HR, cleaning, IT services and finance, which really frees us up to spend more time focusing on teaching and learning, at the same time as keeping control of our own budget.
