Jess Dolman - Head of School, Shirland Primary School

I began my teaching career in Derby City in 2012 and have since held a variety of leadership roles, including SENDCo, Key Stage 2 Lead and Federation SENDCo across two schools. During this time, I gained experience teaching throughout the primary age range, from Nursery to Year 6.

I joined Shirland Primary School in 2021 as Deputy Headteacher and was proud to become Head of School in 2026. I feel incredibly privileged to lead such a wonderful school community and to work alongside a dedicated team committed to ensuring every child thrives.

Alongside my role at Shirland, I am delighted to support schools across the Trust as the Trust Primary SEND Advisor. As part of this role, I currently serve as SENDCo at Mickley Village Primary and Nursery School, working closely with staff, families and external agencies to promote inclusive practice and secure the very best outcomes for children with additional needs.

Outside of school, I have a lifelong passion for musical theatre. I lead a musical theatre group at Shirland and am also the Musical Director for Belper Junior Musical Theatre. Having been a member of Belper Musical Theatre since the age of 13, I have performed in many productions over the years, although my favourite role was undoubtedly Elle Woods in Legally Blonde! I am always involved in a rehearsal, performance or production meeting, and you will often find me singing or quoting lines from my favourite musicals.

I am incredibly proud to be part of the CNET family. Together, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels happy, valued and supported, and receives the very best start in life.
